The south of the Solsonès is a land of cereal crops, good cold cuts and good cuisine. And a fantastic area to explore.
The Miracle Sanctuary is a small oasis in the centre of Catalonia with a small Benedictine community, a spectacular Baroque altarpiece, a Gothic-Renaissance altarpiece and an apartment rental service that organises events and summer holidays.
A few metres from the Pinós sanctuary is a wind rose carved in stone, indicating the geographical centre of Catalonia. On a clear day, from the sanctuary's viewpoints, you can see much of the region of Solsonès and the neighbouring regions of Segarra and Bages.
The south of Solsonès was a border land of the 'Marca Hispanica', with surveillance and defence towers, some restored, scattered across the territory. They form an arch, where the Catalans and the French resisted the attacks of the Saracens who wanted to invade the old Catalonia. Some of the towers, such as Sallent del Solsonès, Vallferosa, Ardèvol and Riner, can be visited.
