Streets full of life
The historic center of Solsona and the Mare de la Font park
The city of Solsona is the best preserved medieval center in Catalonia. Its narrow streets and arcaded squares will reveal the complex of the Cathedral of Santa Maria de Solsona, Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque; inside there is the Chapel of the Virgin of the Cloister, a Romanesque carving from the 12th century. Outside the complex, the Episcopal Palace, an outstanding example of Catalan neoclassicism and home to the Solsona Museum, the Pou de Gel at the Pont portal, the Quarto dels Gegants and the Festa Major groups, on Carrer de Sant Llorenç.
But the most important thing about the old town of Solsona is its lifestyle and its people. There is a lot of activity and atmosphere on Fridays, during the market and weekends, during the Festa Major, music concerts in the summer, mushroom, truffle and truffle fairs and, above all, the Solsona Carnival, the popular festival par excellence.
To go for a walk, on foot or by bike, visit the Mare de la Font park, a family-friendly natural space and starting point for well-signposted routes that will take you to the emblematic Castellvell (an integral architectural element of Solsona’s skyline) or the Pont de la Frau, a stone aqueduct hidden in the middle of the forest.
